Honors Course Enrollment and Placement Policy
HONORS COURSES COVERED
This policy applies to the following honors courses:
- Honors Algebra I
- Honors Geometry
- Honors Algebra II
- Honors English I
- Honors English II
- Honors Chemistry (Freshman Enrollment)
AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT CRITERIA
Students seeking enrollment in an honors course must meet ALL of the following requirements for automatic admission:
- Earn a final average of 93% or higher in the previous course within the same subject area.
- Receive a teacher recommendation from the previous course teacher within the same subject area.
- Score within the top 20% of their class on the applicable TCAP assessment or End-of-Course (EOC) examination for the previous course within the same subject area.
Students who satisfy all three criteria will be automatically enrolled in the corresponding honors course.
PROBATIONARY ADMISSION
Students who meet two of the three enrollment criteria may be admitted to an honors course on a probationary basis.
Students admitted under probationary status will:
- Meet periodically with their teacher mentor to review academic progress, study habits, and course expectations.
